During our recent vacation, we spent a couple of nights at a Bed & Breakfast in Concord, Massachusetts. After long days of sight-seeing, we ended up relaxing in our room late at night watching the Bourne Identity movies. Though my husband has been a fan of the Bourne series for quite some time, this was my first time watching them. And I have to tell you, I had an epiphany.

After having learned about Louisa May Alcott's life and about her fierce determination to keep writing, even when her right hand could write no more, I found myself getting to know an equally determined Jason Bourne.

In one of the films, there is a particular scene where Bourne is shot and he's being chased as he's running breathlessly to save his life ... and hurdle after hurdle comes at him ... and I was thinking to myself that most people in that situation would throw in the towel and call it quits. But the thing is, he NEVER GIVES UP. He never gives up. He never gives up. He keeps going. He never gives up.

I realize he's a fictional character. But the thing is, sometimes real-life characters have adversities that are even tougher than the ones Bourne faced. I realized right then and there, in Concord, that the reason characters like Alcott and Bourne (one real and one fictional) inspire me is because they are not quitters.

I don't like quitters and I don't like quitting. Because it's easy to quit. Anyone can quit. And I'm not interested in being just anyone.

If you like movies about people who never give up, check out
Seraphine. It's a French movie (true story) about an artist who lived to paint, and she never let anything get in her way. This movie is currently showing at Indie theaters.

And don't forget the words of Mr. Winston Churchill...Never, never, never give up.

I really enjoyed your post. Good writing. Good message.

Plus, Matt Damon is hot!

Wow! Believe it or not, I needed to hear that. Never give up! Thank you, Martha

Thanks for the reminder! I like this quote:

“Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” ~Michael Jordan
