I love Hollywood.
Which is where we took Monica yesterday to celebrate her birthday. We landed on the famous corner of Hollywood & Vine ...
With special tickets in hand ...
Before going in, we dined at the famous Roscoe's ... where we enjoyed chicken & waffles, and my favorite: collard greens and sweet potato pie.
The beautiful thing about a place like Roscoe's is that it attracts a VERY diverse group of people (which I REALLY dig) ... from different cultures, different generations, different socio-economics, different skin colors, different in so many ways but united to partake in one unifying thing: great food!
I mean, I really dig folks different from me ... because different people make me realize again and again how wide this universe really is ... and how I'm certainly not the center of it, you know? Because just when I think I have it all figured out with MY path, I run into really cool cats on Harleys who are on different paths ... but valid paths nonetheless ... and who am I to impose my path on them? You know?
As we came out of Roscoe's, I noticed this cool weathered billboard featuring the great Miles Davis ...
And when we finally set foot inside the Pantages, I felt the magic of this theater all over again.
There's so much more I want to talk about ... primarily related to the rich ideas offered in the storyline of Wicked ... ideas about the origins of good & evil, the effects of being disadvantaged/disabled, the power of love, about the patience required for delayed vindication, and more. But I've sort of peetered out for now. Let's promise to revisit these themes in future posts. But maybe we can agree for now that we're all different ... with different histories, and different paths ... but that in spite of our differences, we're common in many ways ... in ways that perhaps makes us all the same, you know?
As always your journey through photos is like reading a wonderful novel. I can think of nothing better for a girl of 13 to experience all sides of life, viewing a very (in my mind) prolific and important story, while dining on what I am told is a delightful combination of chicken and waffles.....truly a wonderful day it must have been!

It's said that we're all connected, and I believe that.
We have a Pantages theatre here in Toronto, too (there, see? we're connected by theatres). Thank you for taking a photo of Miles Davis; I fell for his music as a schoolgirl and as an adult I collaborated on a 2-vol. biography. As for collard greens and sweet potato pie, there's a hole in the wall in New Orleans that serves it up and.... well, all I can hope for is that it's still there. See, we're all connected again!!

Chicken and waffles???
You folks on the west coast have all the fun.
It does look like you had a wonderful day, Jenny. I appreciate your philosophy on life and the variety of people in this world.
Your post about your daughter is beautifully done with so much love.

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
... my favorite Wicked lyrics.
Happy Birthday to Monica. Congratulations to YOU on 13 years of mothering.
