Sorrow is interesting. Once it arrives, it has the ability to take me completely over. To make everything dark and cold, and to make me feel everything is over. After spending a full day yesterday in the grips of Sorrow's hand, I was so close to calling Jana and her husband to say that Gerardo and I wouldn't be able to join them for an event that she had invited us to a while back ... A concert under the stars at the beautiful San Juan Capistrano Mission.
But somehow, Gerardo and I made it to the concert. And I'm so glad we did. It was good to spend time with Jana ... who understands about Sorrow, who understands about Janice, and who has a knack at saying just the right words, giving just the right embrace ...
Sometimes I think if you let it, Sorrow makes you feel guilty for smiling, dancing, laughing. But I think if you let it, Sorrow will smile, dance and laugh along as we learn to move along. Incredibly, ice-cold Sorrow can coexist with the warmth and heat of the sun.
It felt good to be enveloped by the goodness of Jana and her husband Mike and their friends as we sang and danced to The Fab Four — a group that looked and sounded like my favorite group of all time: The Beatles.
In between rocking out, there were moments when certain lyrics caused me to well up, including when "Paul" sang:
"... little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting, little darling it seems like years since it's been clear.
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say, it's all right."
Hello...I discovered your blog while blog hopping. Your words of Sorrow are so profound...thank you...take care:)

I'm so happy you had a nice time with your friends. I find that when I'm in Sorrow's grip and want to be alone that is usually when I most need to be with others. I've been in Sorrow's grip several times in the last few years. I don't know that there's anyone that hasn't been by the time they reach their 40's (in my case). I take comfort in that sometimes ~ comfort in the fact that we're all kind of in it together. God bless. : )
