Can you believe that artist Jen Osborn flew all the way from Michigan to Santa Ana to visit me?
Well ... actually, she flew from Michigan to the Indio area to visit her family but I have to give her a high-five because she drove all the way from Indio to Santa Ana yesterday (a two-hour drive!) to come and play with me. Here we are in my studio ...
I've known Jen for many, many years and I have to tell you that it was sort of unreal to finally meet her, you know? I remember when I first saw and held her art ... truly amazing ATCs with her signature burned transparency technique. I was in awe. And of course I've been with her as she has evolved and pushed the transparency work to new levels and moved into so many wonderful new realms, including art quilting and other innovative works of combining paper, felt, and fabric with very interesting stitching techniques.
I'm SO proud of Jen. She has a book coming out in 2011 that I was able to get a sneak peek at. So exciting! We'll be doing a fun giveaway of the book with some added surprises when it comes out so hope you'll keep an eye out for it. (And of course we have some other fun ideas in the works that will eventually reveal itself on CRESCENDOh.)
Thank you, Jen, for all the great art over the years and for a great visit.
Now Go Make Art!
awe ... you've made me teary :)
I'm sneaking a minute on the computer in our hotel room, and can't tell you how touched I am by this post! It was so amazing to finally meet you in person after all these incredible years working togther. I'm constantly blown away by how far we've come in what has truly felt like a snippet in time to me. I had such a wonderful time with you last night, and am so glad I took the time to drive out and meet you and your wonderful family. The conversation was grand, the food was tasty (especially the plantains), and I'm so incredibly grateful for the opportunities you continually surpise me with! I honestly am so excited to see where the next 10 years together take us :)
I have to tell you that what stuck with me the most was Andrew sharing all his paper projects with us, and coming in to give you love when we got home from dinner. (you've passed my version of the plantain test) After knowing you all these years I'm amazed at how much we have in common, and so excited to continue growing our friendship.
Thank you so much for your guidance and mentorship, your unwavering friendship, and all the opportunities you extend to me with open arms. You are a gift Jenny, and I count myself truly blessed to have you as my friend!
