WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Join Peter Chan of Pixelpchan as he offers a very special 2-day workshop where we explore the wonders of painting with gouache. On both days, Peter will provide slide presentations to review fundamental painting topics. He will also perform demo paintings, followed by in-class painting instruction and feedback as we review Peter's paintings from his earlier work all the way up to his most recent paintings.

SCHEDULE for BOTH DAYS:

• Arrive & Settle: 9:00 :: Time for students to arrive, settle in.
• Class Segment A: 9:30-12:00 :: Class time with Peter who will demonstrate and guide the 1st part of class.
• Lunch & Stroll: 12:00 PM :: You can choose to brown bag it or take a stroll to one of the many hip and artsy eateries in the historic Artist's Village in Santa Ana, like C4 Deli, Chapter One4th Street Market, Cafe Calacas, and The Gypsy Den.
• Class Segment B: 1:30-4:30 PM :: Class time with Peter who will guide the 2nd part of class.
• Clean-Up & Depart: 4:30-5:00 PM

SUPPLY LIST: All participants are asked to bring the following to the workshop:

• GOUACHE PAINTS: These are the colors that Peter is currently using but you are free to try other ones:
  • WINSOR NEWTON: Permanent white, primary yellow, cad yellow, bright red, cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, burnt umber, ivory black
    
  • HOLBEIN: ultramarine blue light, grey no. 1, lilac, pink, opal, navy blue
  • Peter also adds cheap gouaches by Reeves brand ... you can buy a 24 color pack for $15. They are actually pretty good to start out if you have less of a budget and want to test out gouache before committing to the expensive stuff. If you decide to start with the Reeves brand and can budget for a couple of expensive tubes, go for Winsor Newton's permanent white and primary yellow.
• GOUACHE PAINT CONTAINER:
  • There are different ways to transport your gouache. Using a small box like this is a good option.
  • Some people also like to use the sta-wet, and squeeze out new paint for each painting session. The biggest difference is that if you go with the first option, you have to wet the paint once a week to keep it from drying out, and you have to always carry it in your hand leveled.
• BRUSHES
  • One big Princeton brand synthetic round brusy, #16 or #20, and a 1/2-inch flat brush.
  • Also get a couple of variety of sizes for the flats and rounds like this set

• OTHER STUFF
  
  • small cosmetic spray bottle
    
  • small water jar
  • mixing palette
  • watercolor paper or sketch book
  • masking tape
  • paper towels
  • foam board to tape your paper to
