I referenced a Modigiliani painting for this work. Like all my free motion stitched works on fabric, I never pre-draw before I stitch. It's a free process where I look at the reference while sewing.
Comes in an 8-inch diameter wooden embroidery hoop, ready to hang.

Earlier this year, I made this in response to the ill-conceived commercial made by a soda company that I felt trivialized race relations. When the push-back from the public happened, the company fumbled again, as they groveled at the feet of Kendall Jenner who was in the commercial rather than addressing the offensive ad. #theoutrage #resistancelog #artandactivismlog

I referenced a photo of @elisabethmossofficial from @handmaidsonhulu for this work. I first free motion stitched the portrait and text on cotton with a sewing machine (without any pre-drawn marks), then added watercolors and gouache. Basting stitches keep excess fabric pulled to the back side of the work, which can be unbasted and the entire work released from the hoop if desired. "Nolite te bastardes carborundorum" is a Latin-derivative term from The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, which loosely translates to "Don't let the bastards grind you down."

I referenced a portrait that I painted previously for this work by first free motion stitching with a sewing machine (without any pre-drawn marks), then adding watercolors, then adding hand embroidered stitches.

Portrait on cotton drill fabric done with free motion stitching and free art embroidery. Comes in an 8-inch embroidery hoop, which serves as a frame, allowing you to hang the work as is.
Please do not try to remove the work from the hoop as the fabric has been trimmed to be flush with the hoop on the back and the reinforced with fabric glue to stay in place.

Referencing a painting of a rose in a bottle that I did, I first free motion stitched the subject onto cotton fabric then free embroidered to finish.

I love the experience of being seeped in beautiful music while making art. Lately, it's been Larkin Gayl's beautiful song, Never Mind.
Note: People who buy works such as these sometimes show me what they do with the art. Some nail them to a piece of wood, hang them with clips onto string, and many people frame them either with or without glass. Here's a photo below that shows how one person recently decided to frame a work of mine.
